Textual Analysis of the Matrix Lobby Scene

Camerawork:
In the opening of this scene uses a jump cut from the last scene, a low angle shot of his feet and then an over the shoulder shot to show all of Neo's surroundings which include a body scan machine and lots of security and armed military guards on standby. Then after we come to a close up of Neo's bag this could give the impression that there is something or some sort of item that is in bag that should not be in the bag e.g. a prohibited item such as bladed items or sharp objects. Afterwards it is cut to a close up of Neo's face capture his emotion which is seems very bland this could connote that he's not worried or concerned about the all the guards standing right in front of him. A mid-shot is used to show all the guards around Neo and show the conversation he is having with one of the guards, later on we get a close up of the armed weapons on the inside of his jacket. this could suggests a shoot-out is about to breakout or some form of protection, there is jump cut which shows Neo's sidekick killing a guard.

Mise en scene:

The scene takes place in an hotel lobby and the guards are all armed this could connote that this is a very luxurious hotel, also Neo and his sidekick are all dressed up in black latex, the black could suggest violence, danger, dominance and death which are all shown in the scene; it also suggests that they are stealth agents as well. The lighting is dim (low key lighting) this makes Neo and his sidekick look/seem stealth-like and very shady, untrustworthy towards the guards and extremely dangerous. All the guards and military men have armed pistols snipers and machine guns were as Neo and his sidekick are more advanced and their weapons range from pistols, shot guns and machine guns this could show that Neo is under threat; however the guns connote strength and war. The black glasses could denote hidden identity.

Editing:

When the first officer is thrown to the ground the fall is captured in slow motion because it makes the drop seem more dramatic and makes the impact seem bigger, furthermore slow motion is used when Neo's sidekick does her acrobatics this makes her moves seem cool and the audience would be drawn to this because she is acrobatic and fast because nobody touch her. However when Neo shoots in slow motion he's precision and aim seems to be on point.

Sound:

At the start there is non diegetic background music which creates an atmosphere of tension and fear, additionally the ringing sounds are in sync with every step that Neo takes, the ringing sound gets louder and louder with each step. At the start there is dialogue when the guard is speaking to Neo but for the rest of the scene its all non diegetic background music and gunshots and debris from the broken walls.
